So, as could be expected, the president did not return the Immigration Law to the Saeima again, although not all of his recommendations were taken into account by the deputies. In particular, the majority of parliamentarians rejected the proposal from the Ministry of Economics, supported by the Prime Minister, to maintain the program for issuing temporary residence permits to citizens of friendly countries in exchange for purchasing real estate. Rinkēvičs understood that there was no point in returning the law again, as this parliament would not vote for this investment program anyway. Let us remind you that even before the law was signed by the president, Andris Kulbergs promised to submit an amendment to the recently adopted law on the resumption of the mentioned investment program to this parliament. However, according to rumors, the head of government changed his mind about doing this. In any case, this amendment will not have a majority in this Saeima. It would be more logical to wait until November, when the new parliament takes office, and the political landscape becomes clear.
