Parliamentary Secretary of the Ministry of the Interior and Saeima deputy Edvins Snore (National Alliance) commented on social media platform X about the Prime Minister's reluctance to support Dombrova's plan to limit migration. The Prime Minister, he reminded, accused Minister Dombrova of not coordinating his plan with ministries and agencies, and that this document was submitted only 1.5 hours before the coalition council meeting. Edvins Snore disagreed with Prime Minister Kulbergs' position: "Perhaps it is enough to hide behind bureaucratic procedures and say outright that Kulbergs and the National Alliance have completely different views on migration. The National Alliance believes that there are already too many migrants in Latvia. Kulbergs believes that more are needed because Latvians are leaving, and those who will support the Latvian economy in their place are needed. Kulbergs' full argumentation can be heard in the recording of the Saeima Defense Commission meeting from May 5 of this year, where he justifies his proposals for 'golden visas' in the Migration Law. It is not a crime to think this way. Many businessmen (Shlesers, Skele) think the same: economic benefit above all. But this approach is incompatible with the strict immigration position of the National Alliance. To say that Dombrova's plan is bad because it lacks formal approvals is quite strange, especially considering that since July the document has already gone through two rounds of approvals with the ministries. The problem is not in the formalities. The content is not liked. Kulbergs simply does not support the strict migration restrictions proposed by the National Alliance. And he is looking for a pretext to slow down the adoption of these restrictions. That's all.
