The government is unanimously and decisively determined — we will use all available tools to stop the flow of Russian grain through Latvia. ➖ We will significantly increase tariffs/fees for railway infrastructure for Russian grain transportation. They must be high enough to substantially dampen the desire to transport Russian grain through Latvia. (Our actions are limited by the necessary coordination with the European Commission) We are closely coordinating actions with Lithuania, Estonia, and Ukraine to ensure a real effect. ➖ Today, I am in dialogue with the prime ministers of the Baltic countries to achieve a unified position. Tomorrow, we will submit this issue to the Cabinet of Ministers. ➖ In the near future, we expect experts from Ukraine and the United Kingdom to jointly begin inspections of grain shipments. Stolen grain from Ukraine will not pass through our ports. Specific tasks for the ministries: The Ministry of Transport — prepare the relevant government decree and assess the possibility of reducing domestic transportation tariffs for Latvian farmers during the harvest season. The Ministry of Agriculture — ensure inspections of the grain. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs — achieve a unified position among the Baltic states on this issue. The Ministry of the Interior — in case Ukrainian grain is discovered, services must act immediately — action plan. Kozlovskis and Augulis — ensure priority acceptance of Latvian grain by Latvian ports.
