Commenting on the investments in the implementation of the NFC feature, the head of the Latvian branch of SK ID Solutions, Lyudmila Beritsa, noted that she does not have such information. Arsenyeva stated that in the future, creating a Smart-ID account will require a smartphone with NFC support, and identity verification will occur through contactless reading of data from the eID card via NFC. The entire registration process and document signing will also take place directly within the Smart-ID application. She noted that previously, creating a Smart-ID account required a computer and a card reader, and the registration itself occurred simultaneously on the smartphone and computer. Identity was verified using the eID card through a browser on the computer. Then, it was necessary to enter the registration code on the computer, log into the portal separately, and confirm the operation on the computer. With the new registration process, clients will no longer have to switch between their phone and computer. Additionally, this will enhance protection against fraud, as all actions will be performed on a single device, explained Arsenyeva. People whose phones do not have NFC functionality will be able to create a Smart-ID account at the bank. As previously reported, the Latvian branch of the Estonian company SK ID Solutions was registered in 2019. The shareholders of SK ID Solutions are SEB banka, Swedbank, and Telia Eesti.
