The Ministry of the Interior emphasizes that the entry ban is one of the tools that allows Latvia to proactively prevent threats to national and internal security. In addition, the Ministry of the Interior claims that in just two weeks, the length of the section of the Latvian-Belarusian border where border guards have access to video surveillance has increased from 5 to 108 kilometers (approximately 65% of the entire border). Work continues: the task is to ensure that the technical means deployed at the border are fully accessible to border guards and are actually used to prevent illegal border crossings. Together with the Ministry of Education and Science, work has also begun on tightening control over the admission of foreign students and their stay in Latvia. Necessary amendments to regulations are planned to be prepared for this purpose.
