Nasser bin Abdullah Al Thani, although belonging to an influential ruling clan, holds no government positions in his homeland. But who said you need to be in power to live like royalty? Nasser bin Abdullah is a businessman, head of the Nasser bin Abdulla & Sons Group, a former vice president of the Malaga football club, and a great lover of luxury. However, as it turns out, he is not the greatest lover of paying for that luxury. According to the Financial Times, the sheikh owes money on several counts: £198,180 — for accommodation and services; about £3,200 — accrued interest; £256,627 — associated fees and court costs. In other words, Mr. Al Thani lived in one of the most prestigious and expensive ultra-luxury hotels in the world, located in the heart of London, enjoyed all the amenities and services, but deemed it unnecessary to pay the bill. The management of The Dorchester did not appreciate such audacity and sued Nasser bin Abdullah. To recover the money, the judge allowed the confiscation and sale of the sheikh's personal vehicle — an exclusive 2011 Abarth 695 Tributo Ferrari hatchback adorned with racing stripes. However, this sale is unlikely to save the situation: according to the specialized portal The Classic Valuer, the average price for such a small car on the secondary market is only £23,500. This is just one-twentieth of the debt. Nasser bin Abdullah Al Thani did not attend the court hearing and did not send a representative. His official documents still list the luxurious Al-Wajbah Palace in Doha as his address. After the verdict was delivered, the sheikh's lawyers told the press that their client learned about the lawsuit just days ago, as the court notifications were delivered with gross violations. The defense claims that the amount demanded by the hotel is greatly exaggerated, and the sheikh's lawyers intend to appeal this court decision in the near future.
