Military personnel from Latvia and allied states, Zemessardze, and military equipment will be moving around the city. Training checkpoints and anti-vehicle barriers will be set up in certain locations. Flights of drones and military aviation are planned. There may be temporary restrictions on the movement of vehicles and pedestrians. The municipality emphasizes that all noticeable military activities in the city are pre-planned elements of exercises and are not related to any real threat. The most intensive activities are expected in the areas of Petersala-Andrej sala, Brasa, Chiekurkalns, Teika, Mezciems, Tornakalns, Ziepniekkalns, Bolderaja, Daugavgriva, and Salas. Training tasks will be carried out both in urban environments and at specific state and municipal facilities, as well as in critical infrastructure areas. The National Armed Forces, Zemessardze, and military personnel from allied countries, as well as the State Police, Riga Municipal Police, and municipal institutions and enterprises will participate. On the evening of September 16, in Jauna-Teika, near Ropazu Street 6, elements of training anti-vehicle barriers and a checkpoint will begin to be installed. The work is scheduled to start around 8:00 PM. Such activities are intended to practice the ability to control and, if necessary, restrict the movement of vehicles using various barriers and checkpoints. On September 18, exercises will also take place at the biological wastewater treatment station "Daugavgrīva" of the company "Rīgas ūdens" at 60 Dzintaru Street. There, the protection of a critical infrastructure facility will be practiced with the involvement of military personnel and Zemessardze, using training anti-vehicle elements. The most active phase in this area is planned for the morning. Residents of Bolderaja and Daugavgriva should take into account the increased presence of military personnel and equipment. During certain episodes of the exercises in daylight hours, simulation means will be used, so noise levels may increase. Increased noise is not planned during nighttime hours. Additionally, drones will be flying over Riga, and military transport and armored vehicles will be moving around the city. On the night of September 19, exercises will also take place at the Salus Bridge. From 10:00 PM on September 18 to 7:00 AM on September 19, the military will practice the installation and operation of checkpoints in cooperation with the State Police. During this period, motorists should be prepared for slowed traffic and temporary restrictions. On September 18 and 19, practical exercises for the evacuation of the population will also take place in Riga. Participants will gather on Alexander Grin Boulevard near Victory Park, after which they will be transported by buses to Riga Arkadija Secondary School at 6 Melnsila Street, where a training evacuation center will be organized. During the exercises, the procedure for collecting, transporting, registering, and accommodating residents in the evacuation center will be tested, as well as the interaction of various services and institutions. The completion of this phase is planned for the morning of September 19. On the same day, an episode of medical evacuation exercises involving a helicopter will take place in Victory Park. It will use the officially approved landing site in the park. For safety reasons, the relevant area will be temporarily cordoned off. In other parts of Riga, additional checkpoints, barriers, and other elements of military exercises may also appear. The goal of "Namejs 2026" is to test and improve the ability of the National Armed Forces, allies, and state and municipal institutions to act in a coordinated manner in the event of a threat to the state. Special attention is paid to civil-military cooperation, ensuring the continuity of critical services, the operation of the civil protection system, and actions in the context of hybrid threats. The Riga municipality urges residents to monitor information from the official channels of the Riga City Council and the National Armed Forces during the exercises and not to rely on unverified messages on social media.
