Our world is home to a vast number of bacteria, many of which are found on items we use constantly. We have compiled a list of the most contaminated items with microbes. 1.Bed sheets Bed sheets are a breeding ground for dust mites, which can cause allergies and weaken the immune system. What to do: Wash bed sheets at least once a week in hot water. 2.Pillows Pillows accumulate microbes, and up to 10 percent of their weight can consist of dust mites. What to do: Regularly clean pillows or buy new ones. 3.Toothbrushes Toothbrushes harbor bacteria from the mouth that multiply in the open air. What to do: Rinse the toothbrush before and after use, store it in a dry place, and replace it every three months or after illness. Cosmetics Cosmetic products can accumulate bacteria, especially if stored improperly. What to do: Replace cosmetics after their expiration date. 5.Door handles Door handles are touched by many hands. What to do: In public places, open doors with your sleeve, and at home, wipe handles with antimicrobial agents. 6.Light switches Light switches accumulate microbes from frequent use. What to do: Wipe light switches with an antibacterial wipe once a week. 7.Refrigerator handles Refrigerator handles can be contaminated with bacteria from food. What to do: Wipe refrigerator handles once a week. 8.Kitchen sponges Kitchen sponges can transfer bacteria from one dish to another. What to do: Heat sponges in the microwave for 60 seconds before use and replace them more often. 9.Salt and pepper shakers Salt and pepper shakers are often not washed, even though they accumulate bacteria. What to do: Wipe them more often. 10.Shopping carts Carts can be contaminated with E. coli from raw foods. What to do: Wipe handles with an antibacterial wipe and pack raw foods in bags. 11.Smartphones Smartphones can be a source of bacteria as they frequently come into contact with hands and faces. What to do: Wipe your phone with antibacterial wipes before bedtime. 12.Keyboard Keyboards can accumulate microbes from hands. What to do: Wipe the keyboard and remember to clean the space between the keys. 13.Parking meters Parking meters are exposed to many hands. What to do: If possible, use a payment app. 14Money Banknotes and coins often change hands, making them dirty. What to do: Whenever possible, pay with a card. It is impossible to completely avoid contact with microbes, but one of the best ways to prevent illness is to wash hands with soap and running water. If washing hands is not possible, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60 percent alcohol.
