According to the publication, the Bundeswehr is considering scenarios in which Germany could receive up to 1,000 wounded soldiers per day during certain periods. The five military hospitals in the country will not be able to cope with such a number of patients on their own, so in the event of war, civilian medical institutions will have to assist in providing care. German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius previously stated that Russia could potentially be ready to attack NATO territory by 2029. In the event of an armed conflict, Germany, as a member of the alliance, will have to participate in its defense. Due to its location in the center of Europe, the country could also become one of the key points for troop transfers and receiving the wounded. The chief medical officer and commander of the military hospital in Ulm, Benedikt Frimert, acknowledged that the German healthcare system is not yet prepared for such a scenario. According to him, authorities will need to significantly strengthen the medical infrastructure, ensure the resilience of drug supplies, and improve coordination between military and civilian hospitals. Moreover, the problem is not only in the number of hospital beds. Germany relies on foreign supplies of components for drug production.
