Latvia's second-ranked player Darya Semenistaya concluded her participation in the WTA 250 tournament in São Paulo, Brazil, losing in the Round of 16. In the battle for a spot in the quarterfinals, the ninth-seeded Latvian tennis player lost to Serbian Teodora Kostovic with a score of 4–6, 1–6. Despite the defeat, Semenistaya's performance in Brazil earned her 30 WTA ranking points for reaching the second round of the tournament. For the Latvian tennis player, the current tournament started successfully. In her opening match, Semenistaya, ranked 120th in the world, defeated Japan's Haya Kinoshita, who is ranked 210th in the WTA rankings, with a score of 7–5, 6–4. Her opponent in the second round, 186th-ranked Teodora Kostovic, began the tournament with a victory over Brazilian Victoria Barros, who received a wild card, with a score of 6–2, 6–4. This match marked the first head-to-head encounter between Semenistaya and Kostovic in WTA tournaments. The tournament draw changed shortly before the start of the event. Initially, the Latvian was set to play against former world number two Paula Badosa; however, after the withdrawal of top seed Leylah Fernandez, the organizers made adjustments. As a result, Semenistaya received the ninth seed, and her first opponent became lucky loser Haya Kinoshita. Badosa faced Lithuania's Justina Mikulskite.
