According to Kleinsbergs, traffic on the Cable-Stayed Bridge will not be closed until a temporary bridge is put into operation. As previously reported, the winner of the competition for the reconstruction of the Cable-Stayed Bridge was the supplier consortium "Vanšu tilts," which offered to carry out the work for 69.8 million euros excluding VAT. The consortium includes companies Hanza Construction Group, Tilts, and the Baltic Design Office for Artificial Structures "Vektors T." The results of the competition were challenged by the second participant; however, the Procurement Monitoring Bureau deemed the complaint unfounded. After that, the Riga City Council signed a contract with the winner for design and construction. According to plans, the reconstruction of the bridge will require up to 6.7 million euros in 2026, up to 42 million euros in 2027, and up to 35.76 million euros in 2028. The project includes a complete renewal of the asphalt surface, the creation of separate zones for pedestrians and cyclists, as well as the restoration of barriers to a height of 1.3 meters. In addition, the stay cables of the bridge will be completely replaced. The total weight of the new structures will be 385.5 tons. It is also planned to install new protective shells with a total length of 3084 meters, which should increase the durability of the structures and protect them from environmental impacts. The reconstruction will be implemented on a "design and build" basis, where one contractor is responsible for both the design and the construction work. According to the Riga City Council, there are 145 bridges, overpasses, and pedestrian tunnels in the capital. Some of them have already exhausted their operational resources and need major repairs.
