The deployment of German fighters in Latvia will also allow for testing NATO's ability to rapidly move and accept allied forces, as well as the readiness of the base to receive and support allies. The presence of allies and the ability to quickly reinforce the defense of NATO's eastern flank confirm the solidarity of allies, as well as the capabilities of the alliance's collective defense and its readiness to protect the airspace of Latvia and all of NATO, the Ministry of Defense emphasized. At the initiative of Defense Minister Raivis Melniks, during the elections to the 15th Saeima, the air forces of Germany, Italy, and Turkey will increase their presence to strengthen the airspace of Latvia.
