According to the State Security Service (SSS), the elections to the 15th Saeima of Latvia were generally held without serious incidents. At the same time, the agency notes that the verification of information regarding possible violations will continue even after the voting has concluded, as was the case in previous elections. Throughout the entire pre-election period and on election day until the polling stations closed, the SSS registered 43 reports of possible illegal actions related to the elections. Among them were signals about alleged vote buying and possible illegal influence on voter choices. Of the total number of reports, 32 fall under the jurisdiction of the State Security Service itself. Most of them have already been checked, and according to the agency, no confirmations of illegal actions were found. Verification of several episodes is ongoing. This means that a report received does not, by itself, indicate a violation. Each case undergoes a separate review, and only after that is a decision made regarding further actions. As a result of the checks conducted, SSS employees in some cases limited themselves to preventive conversations. During these, people were informed about the possible criminal liability if crimes related to the elections were committed. The remaining reports, which do not fall under the jurisdiction of the State Security Service, were forwarded to other state institutions for further consideration. Separately, the SSS assessed the situation regarding possible external interference in the elections. According to the service, during the pre-election campaign and on election day, no systematic attempts by Russia or other states that the Latvian authorities consider hostile to illegally influence the conduct of the elections or their results were identified. Thus, according to the preliminary assessment of the State Security Service, the electoral process proceeded normally, although work on verifying individual reports of possible violations is still ongoing.
