Voter turnout in the 15th Saeima elections of Latvia exceeded 50%. According to partially processed data from the Central Election Commission, at least 788 thousand voters exercised their right to vote, which constitutes 50.59% of the total number of citizens eligible to participate in the elections. The majority of votes were cast on the main voting day. On Saturday, approximately 618.5 thousand people, or 39.7% of all voters, came to the polling stations. The rest voted early in the previous days. Thus, every second voter participated in the elections. However, the final turnout was lower than in the two previous parliamentary elections. For comparison, in 2022, 59.41% of voters participated in the elections, while in 2018, the figure was 54.56%. At the same time, it is not entirely correct to compare the figures directly. In the previous elections, polling stations were open for one hour longer on the voting day, and early voting was available only for three days and at a limited number of stations. In the current elections, the rules were changed, so the conditions for participation were different. A total of 1,557,615 citizens had the right to vote in the elections in Latvia and abroad. After the polling stations closed, the Central Election Commission began counting the votes. The first official results, which will show the distribution of seats in the new 15th Saeima, are expected to be published overnight.
