On Friday, October 9, Latvia is expected to experience its first storm of the autumn, meteorologists forecast, according to LETA. According to the latest forecasts, the wind will start to noticeably strengthen on Friday morning and will remain strong throughout the day. Gusts of south-western wind will reach 16–21 meters per second, and up to 28 meters per second on the coast. By Saturday night, the wind will gradually weaken. Meteorologists estimate that the current storm will be significantly weaker than the destructive storm of August 22–23, which became the most powerful summer storm in the history of weather observations in Latvia. Before the weather worsens, predominantly dry and sunny weather will prevail in the country on Wednesday and Thursday, with light to moderate winds. On Thursday, temperatures in some areas will rise to +20 degrees. A sharp drop in temperature is expected on Friday: in many regions, daytime temperatures will fall below +10 degrees, with rain expected in some areas.
