Residents of Latvia will experience the last day this year on Thursday when temperatures may reach +20 degrees in some areas. According to meteorologists' forecasts, the maximum temperature across the country will be +15 to +20 degrees. The day is expected to be not only warm but also predominantly sunny. No precipitation is expected, and there will be a light to moderate southeast wind. In Riga, the temperature will rise to about +19 degrees. Sunny weather is also expected in the capital, with a light to moderate wind from the southeast. However, the current warmth for October is not yet record-breaking. According to the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre, temperatures of +20 degrees were recorded in the country significantly later — on October 18. This figure was registered in 1949 and 2018. After Thursday, the weather will begin to change. A cyclone is approaching Latvia from the west, and atmospheric pressure is already dropping. Early Thursday morning, it was 1011–1016 hPa at sea level. This means that the current almost summer-like temperatures will not last long. In the following days of October, thermometers will mainly show temperatures from 0 to +15 degrees, with occasional rain expected. Thus, Thursday may be the last opportunity this year to experience temperatures around +20 degrees in Latvia — after that, the weather will take on a more typical mid-autumn character.
