Krista Pike's lawyer, Randy Spivey, spoke about the condition of his client after she regained consciousness several days after a failed execution attempt, reports [tv3.lv](https://tv3.lv/zinas/arvalstis/dusmiga-un-apjukusi-ar-navessodu-notiesatas-kristas-paikas-advokats-atklaj-kadi-bijusi-vinas-pirmie-vardi-pec-pamosanas/). According to him, the first thing the woman asked after waking up was: > "Where am I and who are you?" The defense attorney noted that Pike is still experiencing serious cognitive impairments, but understands that state authorities attempted to carry out the death sentence. > "She wanted to know what happened and was asking about several people. I think she is currently feeling anger and confusion about everything that has happened," Spivey stated. Currently, 50-year-old Pike remains in the hospital, where she is receiving intensive medical care. Despite the treatment, she is kept under guard and in handcuffs. The attempt to carry out the death sentence was made last week in Tennessee. Pike, convicted of murdering 19-year-old Collin Slemer in 1995, was administered a lethal injection, but the procedure did not result in her death. After that, the woman was taken to the hospital. She was unconscious for several days while doctors attempted to remove the chemical substance from her body. This case is already being described as unprecedented. According to experts, previously convicted individuals only survived when the lethal drug could not be injected into a vein. In Pike's situation, the injection was performed, but the sentence could not be carried out. So far, Tennessee authorities have not announced whether they will make another attempt to carry out the death sentence.
