Clinical psychologist and sexologist Ekaterina Makarova, in a conversation with WomanHit, named ten signs that may indicate sexual compatibility between partners. ### It All Starts with the Ability to Understand Yourself According to the specialist, it is difficult to talk about harmonious intimate relationships if a person does not understand their own needs, reactions, and boundaries well. Equally important is the ability to communicate with a partner: to express one's desires, to inquire about their preferences, and to understand what is acceptable for each person and what is not. At the same time, there is no universal script for a 'correct' intimate life. The main thing is that what happens satisfies both partners, is consensual, and does not cause harm. ### 1. You Can Say 'No' One of the most important signs of healthy relationships is the ability to refuse intimacy or a specific practice without the need to justify oneself and without fear of facing pressure or resentment. The refusal of one partner should be perceived by the other as a boundary that must be respected. ### 2. You Don’t Have to Pretend In harmonious relationships, a person can be themselves and naturally express their own emotions and bodily reactions. There is no need to feign pleasure, meet someone else's expectations, or play a role just to avoid disappointing a partner. ### 3. You Are Not Afraid of Your Own Fantasies Intimate fantasies and images are a natural part of sexuality. The mere fact of their existence does not mean that a person is obligated to realize them in reality. What is much more important is the ability to calmly relate to one's thoughts and, if desired, discuss them with a partner while maintaining each person's right to their boundaries. ### 4. Your Partner's Touches Are Pleasant to You Caresses and touches should bring pleasure, not become an obligation that one has to endure for the sake of another person. If familiar expressions of intimacy constantly cause tension or unpleasant sensations, the expert advises not to ignore the problem but to try to understand its causes. ### 5. You Know What Your Partner Likes Good compatibility lies not in virtuoso mastery of some universal 'techniques' but in attention to the specific person. Partners gradually learn each other's preferences, notice reactions, and are able to change their behavior based on the other’s wishes. ### 6. You Are Able to Enjoy In the initial list, one of the signs of compatibility is achieving orgasm during intimate closeness. However, this is not only about the final bodily reaction. The overall ability to enjoy what is happening and feel comfortable with a partner is important. ### 7. Your Partner Also Enjoys A harmonious intimate life is not built around the needs of just one person. Attention is directed towards both: partners are interested not only in their own sensations but also in making the intimacy pleasant for the other. ### 8. You Feel Good After Intimacy Another indicator is the emotional state after intimate contact. If the scenario of intimacy, one's own behavior, and the partner's actions leave a feeling of satisfaction and comfort, it indicates that what is happening aligns with your desires and boundaries. ### 9. Your Partner Is Also Satisfied The same should happen from the other side. If one partner regularly feels satisfied while the other feels disappointment, tension, or a sense that their needs are being ignored, it becomes more difficult to talk about stable harmony. ### 10. You Can Talk About What Happens in the Bedroom Perhaps the most important point is the ability to discuss intimate life without fear and shame. Partners can express what they liked and what they would like to change, listen to each other calmly, and agree on what the next experience will be like. Such a conversation should not turn into a blame game. Its goal is to make intimacy more comfortable for both. ### Compatibility Is Not an Ideal Match of Desires According to the sexologist, if important components of intimate harmony are constantly absent, it is worth paying attention to this. Especially if the problem persists for a long time and attempts to talk end in conflicts or silence. If necessary, a psychologist or sexologist can help to understand the reasons. At the same time, the absence of one or several points from the list does not in itself mean that the relationship is doomed. Sexual compatibility is not a situation where two people initially want exactly the same thing. It is much more important whether they can hear each other, respect refusals, openly talk about desires, and together seek what brings pleasure to both.
