The proposal to increase the allowance was supported by the Committee on Education, Culture, Sports, and Social Policy of the Adazi Municipal Council. According to information published on the municipality's website, the deputies propose to raise the amount of the payment by 200 euros — from 300 to 500 euros for each newborn. When preparing the decision, the actual expenses of the municipality in 2026 were taken into account. It turned out that the forecasts regarding the number of applications for the allowance are not justified: fewer applications are received than expected. The municipality notes that the birth rate continues to decline. In addition, some parents prefer to initially declare their place of residence in other cities and regions of Latvia, where financial support for the birth of a child is more substantial. At the same time, local authorities have already decided to increase payments to families where two or more children are born at the same time. In September, the Adazi Council approved the following amounts of allowances: - For the birth of twins — 2000 euros, or 1000 euros for each child. - For the birth of triplets or more children — 1500 euros for each newborn. The proposed increase of the regular allowance to 500 euros has so far been supported by the relevant committee. For the changes to take effect, a corresponding decision by the municipality is necessary.
