During the repair work, the cable-stayed bridge will still be open to traffic — at least one lane will be open in each direction. The exception will be the period during the replacement of the cables, said Kleinbergs. At the same time, he did not deny that during the repair work, it will be necessary to reconstruct the intersections to ensure traffic on the planned temporary bridge. "A competition will be announced, within which projects for the reconstruction of various intersections during the repair work will be developed," the mayor explained. Kleinbergs reported that Latvijas Valsts ceļi is already preparing a procurement to acquire a temporary bridge. An agreement has been reached with the manufacturer that the bridge can be manufactured by the fall of next year. "It may even turn out that no additional purchases will be necessary," noted Kleinbergs. The temporary bridge can also be used in other cases after the reconstruction of the cable-stayed bridge, he added. The Mayor of Riga is confident that the temporary bridge will be delivered on time. The consortium Vanšu tilts won the competition for the reconstruction of the cable-stayed bridge, offering to carry out the work for 69.8 million euros excluding value-added tax, according to information in the electronic procurement system. The consortium includes Hanza Construction Group, Tilts, and the Baltic Bureau of Artificial Structures Design "Vektors T." This year, up to 6.7 million euros will be needed for the repair of the cable-stayed bridge, in 2027 — up to 42 million euros, and in 2028 — up to 35.76 million euros. The total length of the cable-stayed bridge is 593.6 meters, and the height of the pylon is 108.7 meters. The project includes the renewal of the asphalt pavement of the bridge roadway, the replacement of the cables, and the creation of separate movement zones for pedestrians and cyclists. The temporary bridge will cost about 20 million euros. However, it is still unclear who and to what extent will finance it.
