German footballers refused to shower at the stadium in Baku, fearing contagious disease

The match took place the day before and ended with Borussia winning 2-1. After the game, the players of the German club immediately went to the hotel to take a shower there. "Yesterday after training we also didn’t take a shower — we are quickly returning to the hotel now. We were told that we cannot shower here," said Borussia's head coach Niko Kovac. However, it remains unclear who specifically issued such an order and for what reason. As Bild reports, Borussia did not want to put the health of the players at risk. One of the reasons was concern about the potential presence of Legionella bacteria in the water supply system. The bacteria can enter the body through inhalation, especially during showering. Therefore, as a precaution, Borussia preferred to use the showers at the hotel.
