HBO has begun developing a series based on the famous thriller 'The Birds' and the eponymous work by British author Daphne du Maurier. This was reported by Deadline. The creators intend not just to repeat the plot of the original film, released in 1963, but to offer viewers a completely new story with elements of detective and psychological thriller. The action will take place in modern Alaska. The main character, Myra Massey, played by Sarah Snook, returns with her young daughter to her hometown after a difficult custody battle. At the same time, the woman tries to uncover the circumstances surrounding the mysterious disappearance of her childhood friend. However, the investigation turns into a real nightmare. While the protagonist searches for the criminal, aggressive birds begin to attack the townspeople. Moreover, their inexplicable behavior turns out to be somehow connected to the crime being investigated. Myra must not only uncover the mystery but also save her own daughter. The script is being written by Tom Spezialy, known for the series 'The Leftovers' and 'The Watchmen'. Among the executive producers is David Heyman, who was involved in the creation of the Harry Potter films. The project will be produced by HBO and Universal Global Television. Hitchcock's original 'The Birds', based on Daphne du Maurier's 1952 story, became one of the most famous films in the history of the horror genre. The film tells the story of a small Californian town whose residents unexpectedly face mass bird attacks. Attempts to create a new version of this story have been made before. In 2007, a feature film remake with Naomi Watts was planned, and in 2017, the BBC announced the development of a television adaptation. However, both projects were never realized. The new series is currently in the development stage. The start date for filming and the expected premiere have not yet been announced.
