Along with Damon, the episode featured famous American television host David Letterman. Both appeared as wealthy residents of 19th century New York. Dressed in period costumes, they simply walked down the street past the mansions of the main characters of the series, not saying a word. The unusual appearance of the celebrities is connected to the filming of Letterman's show "My Next Guest Needs No Introduction," which airs on Netflix. It turned out that the television host had dreamed for nearly half a century of trying his hand as an extra. This idea came to him back in 1977 when he spotted an acquaintance in a small scene from Woody Allen's film "Annie Hall." His long-held dream was realized thanks to Matt Damon, who was supposed to be a guest on Letterman's show. It turned out that early in his acting career, Damon, along with his friend Ben Affleck, also participated in crowd scenes. That’s when the idea arose to once again find themselves on set as ordinary extras. For this unusual experiment, they chose the series "The Gilded Age." Its creator, Julian Fellowes, known for "Downton Abbey," supported the initiative. Despite their star status, Damon and Letterman went through the usual preparation process for filming: trying on historical costumes, working with makeup artists and hairstylists. Damon was fitted with false mustaches and sideburns, while Letterman was given a suitable headpiece. The filming was not without its quirks. According to the producers, Damon laughed so much that he had to hold on to his false mustache to keep it from coming off. In the end, both celebrities appeared on screen for only a few seconds. Moreover, their names were not even included in the final credits. The fourth season of "The Gilded Age" premiered on November 1, 2026. The series is set in New York in the 1880s, when the rapid enrichment of industrialists and entrepreneurs was changing the traditional way of life of American high society. The plot centers around the confrontation between the old aristocracy and the new millionaires, the struggle for influence, wealth, and social recognition. The main roles in the historical drama are played by Christine Baranski, Cynthia Nixon, Carrie Coon, and Morgan Spector.
